How Dad Dealt with the Tragic Aftermath of His Wife ‘Killing Their Kids’

October 15, 2024

Patrick Clancy, the husband of Lindsay Clancy, who is accused of killing their three children, has opened up about his life nearly two years after the tragic event.

Lindsay, 32, is believed to have been suffering from severe postpartum psychosis when she allegedly strangled their children—Cora (5), Dawson (3), and Callan (7 months)—on January 24, 2023, before attempting to take her own life by jumping from a window. She survived the suicide attempt.

Patrick, 36, spoke to *The New Yorker* about his ongoing grief and how he is coping with the devastating loss. In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, he made headlines with a statement in which he expressed his love for Lindsay, stating, "The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring.

All I wish for her now is that she can somehow find peace." Despite the accusations against her, he holds on to the belief that she was not a monster, but rather someone who became severely ill.

Since the deaths of his children, Patrick has sought solace in various activities, including joining a sailing club, running the Boston Marathon for a children’s charity, and volunteering as a guide for blind runners. He and Lindsay’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, has been sold, marking the end of that chapter in his life. He now lives in New York, where his apartment is filled with photos of his children.

Patrick shared that despite everything, Lindsay still deeply misses their children, a sentiment he acknowledges might be difficult for others to understand. Though he has publicly forgiven her, his parents reportedly have not had much contact with her since the tragedy.

Lindsay Clancy's legal defense is expected to argue that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the alleged murders, a severe mental health condition that can affect new mothers.

Postpartum psychosis is rare, impacting about 1 in 500 mothers, but it is considered a medical emergency that can result in extreme mood changes, delusions, and hallucinations. Lindsay’s trial will likely hinge on this mental health condition as her defense team prepares to argue insanity.
