TGI Fridays has recently closed 12 more locations in the U.S. and nearly 35 in the U.K. as part of an ongoing effort to restructure its business.
The American-themed diner chain shut down several locations in the U.S. Northeast last week, including Clifton Park, Middletown, and Poughkeepsie in New York, and Enfield in Connecticut, as well as locations in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.
Earlier this year, the chain had already closed 36 underperforming restaurants in the U.S. The latest closures are part of the company’s strategy to streamline its operations and strengthen its franchise model.
In the U.K., 35 locations were also shuttered after the company was bought by Breal Capital and Calveton, which helped save 51 other TGI Fridays restaurants. More than 1,000 employees lost their jobs due to the U.K. closures.
TGI Fridays' restructuring aims to improve the brand's future performance by focusing on more successful locations and optimising their operations.
