Water Companies Seek Even Higher Bill Increase

October 22, 2024

Water companies across England and Wales are pushing for even larger increases in bills than initially requested, with Southern Water proposing an 84% hike.

Thames Water, the UK’s largest water company, is seeking a 53% rise, which would bring its annual bill to £667 by 2029/30, making it the most expensive in the country.

Wessex Water is the only one not requesting higher increases than it first proposed in July of the 11 water and wastewater companies in the region,

On average, the companies are asking for a 40% rise, which would bring the typical water bill to £615 per year by 2030, up from the current average of £439.

The regulator's interim decision in July allowed for an average bill increase of 21% annually, but companies are now seeking significantly larger hikes.
