Massive NHS Overhaul Could See Robot Surgeons and Patient Passports Rolled Out Nationwide

October 22, 2024

The UK government is pushing for a significant transformation in the NHS, aiming to bring it into the digital age with a "single patient record" system, AI technology, and robotic surgery.

This overhaul is hoped to mark a watershed moment, akin to the founding of the NHS in 1948. The idea is to streamline patient care by allowing medical history to be accessible via mobile phones through a "patient passport," enhancing the sharing of information between healthcare providers.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has launched a consultation process, inviting input from both NHS staff and patients to help shape a ten-year plan for the future.

Ideas already suggested by the public range from practical solutions, such as centralising purchases for cost savings and instituting fines for missed appointments, to more imaginative proposals like replacing ambulance sirens with healthy eating advice.

This ambitious plan aims to modernise the NHS and meet 21st-century healthcare needs by embracing technology for more efficient, connected services
