Two people have tragically died after a migrant boat sank in the English Channel near the coast of Sangatte, close to Calais, France.
The incident, which occurred this morning, involved approximately 50 migrants who fell into the water around 8 a.m., about 2 kilometers from the shoreline. French authorities are currently involved in a large-scale rescue operation to assist those affected.
As a result, Dover-Calais cross-Channel services are experiencing significant delays of up to 120 minutes due to the ongoing rescue efforts in Calais Port.
Authorities are still working to recover and provide assistance to the migrants involved, and more details are expected as the situation develops.
The Channel continues to be a dangerous crossing for migrants attempting to reach the UK, often in overcrowded and unsafe boats.
