Hezbollah announced on Tuesday via a post on the public Telegram board that it has appointed its deputy leader, Naim Qassem, as its new leader.
The statement read: "With faith in God Almighty, a commitment to authentic Muhammadan Islam, and adherence to Hezbollah's principles and objectives."
It continued, "In line with the approved process for electing the Secretary-General, the Hezbollah Shura Council has elected His Eminence Sheikh Naim Qassem as Secretary-General of Hezbollah."
