Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has reformed its treatment of women in custody after an investigation revealed unlawful strip searches and arrests.
Strip searches for "welfare" purposes are now banned, and officers receive better training for handling domestic abuse cases.
The inquiry, led by Dame Vera Baird, uncovered systemic failures, including cases like "Sophie," who was wrongfully arrested after her abusive ex-partner filed a trivial complaint. GMP later apologised for her treatment.
Mayor Andy Burnham praised the changes, but victims remain sceptical. While reforms are underway, no officers have faced any disciplinary measure, and trust in the force remains fragile.
