Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved a significant update to the country’s nuclear doctrine, expanding the scenarios in which nuclear weapons could be used.
The revised policy permits nuclear strikes in response to conventional missile attacks supported by a nuclear power, such as the United States.
The move follows Washington’s decision to allow Ukraine to use long-range American missiles against targets within Russia.
The updated doctrine also states that aggression by any coalition member state will be viewed as a collective attack by the entire coalition.
These changes come amid escalating tensions in the 1,000-day-long Ukraine war, which has brought Russia and the West to their most perilous standoff since the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.
Could this imply that the world is tilting towards World War III?
