Brazilian police have arrested five officers accused of plotting a coup after the 2022 elections, targeting President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
The suspects include four military personnel and one police officer. The plan reportedly aimed to disrupt Lula's inauguration and undermine democracy.
Judge de Moraes, who authorised the arrests, cited evidence of military involvement in the conspiracy. This follows earlier claims that former President Bolsonaro sought to remain in power illegally.
Lula has not publicly commented amid the G20 summit in Rio.
