Avanti West Coast Staff to Strike Over Rest Day Working Dispute

The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) announced that train managers will strike on New Year's Eve, 2 January, and Sundays between 12 January and 25 May. The strikes involve up to 400 RMT members, with 83% voting against Avanti's latest deal in two referendums.

An RMT spokesperson said:
"Our members have resoundingly rejected Avanti's latest offers in two referendums, and sustained strike action is now the only way to focus management's minds on reaching a negotiated settlement with the union."

Impact on Services

The strikes will affect six key Avanti West Coast routes, including services from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly, Blackpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Holyhead, Wrexham, and Liverpool.

Strikes planned for 22, 23, and 29 December were suspended last week after the proposed deal was put to a vote, but members ultimately rejected it.

Passengers are being urged to check travel schedules and consider alternative arrangements during the strike days.

Avanti West Coast has yet to announce its contingency plans but has expressed disappointment over the rejection and pledged to seek further discussions.
