Apple Pulls its AI-Notifications for News after Generating Fake Headlines

January 17, 2025

By Evans Momodu

Apple has temporarily suspended its AI-powered news summary feature after repeated errors, including generating false headlines.

The feature misrepresented stories, such as falsely claiming Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu was arrested and a murder suspect had shot himself.

Criticism from the BBC, the Washington Post, and press freedom groups led to Apple disabling the feature in a beta update while working on improvements.

Future updates will clearly label AI-generated content to warn users of potential inaccuracies. Apple plans to reintroduce the feature once the issues are resolved.
