On Monday, President Donald Trump began implementing his ambitious agenda through a series of executive actions aimed at initiating his pledged transformation of the federal government.

Kicking off his second term, Trump signed several orders during his first post-inauguration rally. These included withdrawing the United States from the Paris climate agreement, imposing a hiring freeze across federal agencies, and mandating federal employees to return to office work.

Later in the Oval Office, Trump signed additional measures, including pardons for individuals charged in connection with the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, postponement of the TikTok ban, and initial steps to overhaul the American immigration system.

Supporters of Trump clashed with law enforcement during the January 6 Capitol attack in Washington, DC, 2021.

"These actions mark the beginning of America's full restoration and a revolution of common sense," Trump declared in his inaugural address after being sworn in as the 47th president. "The Golden Age of America starts now," he proclaimed.

The actions stem from several promises made during Trump’s victorious 2024 campaign, along with proposals from his previous term that were never fully realised. However, the implementation of some significant measures may face legal challenges.

Below is a summary of actions Trump took on his first day in office:

  • Withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement.
  • Federal hiring freeze.
  • Mandatory return to office for federal workers.
  • Pardons for individuals charged in the January 6 Capitol attack.
  • Postponement of the TikTok ban.
  • Initial steps to reform the American immigration system.
