Morrisons has announced plans to cut 201 staff members, becoming the latest supermarket to reduce its workforce. Roles in customer service, recruitment, and payroll are expected to be affected.
A spokesperson confirmed a 45-day consultation process will precede final decisions. "We recently reviewed our People structure to provide more timely and consistent service to our stores and sites," they stated.
The proposed changes would eliminate the roles of regional people manager, store people manager, and case specialist, placing employees in these positions at risk of redundancy.
New central roles, including employee relations and HR support, will be created to better support operations.
Morrisons follows other supermarkets in cost-cutting efforts. Sainsbury's recently announced 3,000 job cuts and the closure of its remaining in-store cafes, while Asda earlier this month eliminated 13 regional manager positions as part of a staff restructuring.
