Kia Recalls Over 80,000 Vehicles Due to Airbag and Seat Belt Wiring Issue

Kia America is recalling 80,255 vehicles from the 2023–2025 model years due to potential wiring damage beneath the front passenger seat. This issue could:

  • Prevent airbags and seat belts from deploying properly during a crash.
  • Cause unintended deployment of the side curtain airbags.

Affected Models

  1. Niro EV
  2. Niro Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)
  3. Niro Hybrid

Remedy

  • Dealership actions: Inspect, replace, and reroute the floor wiring assembly if necessary. Install wiring covers.
  • Cost: All repairs will be free of charge.
  • Owner Notification: Kia will notify affected owners via mailed letters starting in March 2025.

This recall follows a November 2024 recall involving over 208,000 Hyundai and Kia electric vehicles to address charging control unit issues that could damage the 12-volt battery, potentially resulting in a loss of drive power.

Owners of the affected models should monitor for the recall notice and contact their Kia dealership for inspection and repairs once notified.
