The US economy added 143,000 jobs in January 2025, falling short of the expected 170,000, while the unemployment rate dipped to 4%, according to the Bureau of Labour Statistics. Economists had projected the rate would remain at 4.1%.

Severe weather, including cold conditions and Los Angeles wildfires, likely influenced the slowdown in hiring. Additionally, the latest benchmark revision revealed that job growth in 2024 was weaker than initially reported, with 589,000 fewer jobs added than previously estimated.
