Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI has introduced Grok 3, its latest artificial intelligence model, aiming to rival with Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s GPT-4o, Anthropic’s Claude 3.5, and DeepSeek’s V3 in the 2025 AI competition. The company claims Grok 3 outperforms competitors in math, science, and coding benchmarks.

Grok 3 comes with new features, including "Deep Search" for advanced web browsing, the ability to code online games, and a "Big Brain" mode for complex problem-solving. It is available to users subscribed to X’s $40/month "Premium+" plan or through xAI’s standalone app and website.

Musk stated that Grok 3 was developed using 10 times the computing power of its predecessor, Grok 2, after xAI opened a new data centre in Tennessee. He described Grok 3 as a "beta" version, acknowledging initial imperfections but promising rapid improvements.

Additionally, a "voice mode" similar to ChatGPT’s natural conversation feature will be rolled out soon.

The launch comes amid Musk’s growing rivalry with OpenAI, following his failed $97 billion bid to acquire the company. Musk has been critical of OpenAI’s shift away from its nonprofit mission and has pushed for greater open-source transparency in AI development.

When asked about open-sourcing Grok 3, Musk confirmed that Grok 2 would be open-sourced, but did not commit to doing the same for Grok 3.

With AI competition intensifying, xAI is positioning itself as a major player in the race for more powerful, efficient AI models.
