A recent meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House escalated into a heated confrontation, highlighting significant tensions in U.S.-Ukraine relations.

Amidst this internecine struggle, Ukraine has incurred staggering losses—countless soldiers have fallen, families have been uprooted, and the ever-looming threat of a third world war feels more imminent than ever.
Perhaps now is the moment for both sides to consider an alternative approach. Instead of escalation, could they not envision a future where they metaphorically extend an olive branch, signalling a willingness to negotiate? By embracing dialogue and cooperation, they could pave the way to rebuilding their nations and restoring stability in the region. Ultimately, the pressing question remains—is it time to end the fighting and seek a path toward peace?
For centuries, humanity has often turned to brute force and war to resolve disputes that could have easily been settled at the negotiation table. In the heat of battle, we have drenched the fields with the blood of innocents, only to find ourselves circling back to negotiations and treaties to bring an end to the conflict. It poses a poignant question—if diplomacy could have paved the way to peace, why do we resort to violence in the first place?
It's time we faced a harsh reality: the peace talks we overlook in the early stages of conflict are the very discussions we inevitably return to, but often only after countless lives and vast resources have been sacrificed. The cycle of war and diplomacy can seem almost tragic. Imagine a world where we prioritise dialogue over destruction, where we lean into negotiations as our primary tool for resolving conflicts, rather than viewing them as a last resort.
Let’s shift our mindset and understand that seeking peaceful resolutions is not a sign of weakness but of strength and wisdom. The future of our societies depends on our willingness to embrace conversations and diplomacy, sparking a revival of humanity's greatest asset—our ability to communicate and connect. It’s time to champion peace talks as a proactive strategy and not just a reactive measure. Together, we can rewrite the narrative and maximise our chances for a more peaceful world.
