OnlyFans No Longer Accessible in China

OnlyFans, the subscription-based platform renowned for its sexually explicit content, has been blocked in China after a brief period of accessibility.

Reports of the platform being accessible in late November were confirmed by CNN at the time, but access has now been restricted.

China maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward pornography, which is illegal in the country. Its extensive internet censorship, often referred to as the "Great Firewall," blocks thousands of websites, including those hosting adult content.

The temporary accessibility of OnlyFans had sparked humour and speculation on Chinese social media platforms like Weibo.

Users joked that the platform could serve as a novel solution to China's high youth unemployment rates, with some suggesting it offered an appealing alternative to traditional employment.

Comments highlighted the platform's model of giving creators 90% of their income, with some posts stating, “Isn’t this better than actual work?”

Unemployment among China’s 16-24 age group stood at 17.1% in October, slightly lower than record highs earlier in the year, according to government statistics.

Although OnlyFans is primarily associated with adult content, it also hosts creators sharing music, fitness videos, and other non-explicit material.

The platform expanded its offerings last year with the launch of a porn-free streaming service featuring sports and comedy content.
