Uswitch has issued a warning to millions of customers regarding the imminent discontinuation of 3G services this year.
Approximately 4.3 million users with older 3G mobile devices will be notified as O2, the last UK provider to support 3G, prepares to transition entirely to 4G and 5G networks.
This shift could result in a loss of mobile data access for those who do not upgrade their devices. The change will also impact customers of Tesco Mobile, Giffgaff, Virgin, and Sky Mobile, all of which operate on O2's network.
Vodafone, Three, and EE have already completed their 3G shutdowns, a process that began last year.
Ernest Doku, a telecoms expert at Uswitch.com, highlighted the significance of the move, describing it as a "crucial step to free up capacity for expanding 4G and 5G networks."
He added that "While the 3G switch-off marks progress toward faster and more reliable services, it is vital for consumers to understand their network's plans and the potential impact on their devices."
