DHL Resumes Global Shipments over $800 to U.S. Customers Following Temporary Suspension

DHL has restarted global shipments to U.S. consumers valued over $800 after a temporary suspension due to new customs rules. Learn more about the policy updates and impacts on global shipping below.

DHL has announced the immediate resumption of global business-to-consumer (B2C) shipments valued above $800 to U.S. customers, ending a suspension that began earlier this month.

The shipping giant had paused B2C deliveries over $800 to the United States starting April 21, citing a new U.S. regulation that required formal customs clearance for shipments above this lower threshold — previously set at $2,500. DHL explained that the sudden change led to a surge in formal entry processes, straining their clearance operations.

In a statement on Monday, DHL said it had been working diligently to expand its customs processing capacity. The company also highlighted a “constructive dialogue” with U.S. authorities, including the Department of Commerce, which resulted in adjustments to customs regulations, enabling the company to restart these shipments immediately.

DHL’s shipment suspension was one of several recent logistics disruptions impacting American consumers. On April 16, Hong Kong’s postal service announced it would halt the handling of packages to and from the United States.

This move followed President Donald Trump’s decision to end the "de minimis" tariff exemption, which currently allows duty-free imports on goods valued at $800 or less. The exemption is set to expire on May 2.

E-commerce platforms like Temu and Shein, known for offering affordable goods sourced mainly from China, have already responded by increasing prices on many items ahead of the policy change.
