CBS News and Editing Allegations in 60 Minutes Interview with VP Harris

October 21, 2024

The controversy surrounding CBS's "60 Minutes" interview with Vice President Kamala Harris has escalated, with former President Donald Trump accusing the network of deceitfully editing Harris' responses to make her appear more coherent.

CBS pushed back against Trump's claims, labelling the allegations "false" and clarifying that they edited Harris' response to condense it for time constraints, while "Face the Nation" aired a longer version of the same answer. The network maintains that both segments contained the same content but in different formats.

The Trump campaign, however, doubled down, asserting that CBS's edits were intentional distortions aimed at improving Harris' image. They demanded the release of the full transcript and unedited video.

Trump called the editing "election interference" and labelled Harris' original answer as "incompetent." He also suggested CBS should lose its broadcasting license, accusing the network of participating in a "Fake News Scam."

The controversy has sparked intense reactions, especially among conservatives, and has led to formal complaints to the FCC alleging deliberate news distortion. CBS continues to defend its editing choices, emphasizing that they were routine and not politically motivated.
