Scott and Georgina Bayliss had a terrifying experience when their £50,000 Mercedes EQA exploded on their driveway, narrowly avoiding a devastating fire to their home.
Dramatic footage captured the electric vehicle bursting into flames just steps from their front door in Spratton, Northamptonshire, on the night of September 30.
The blaze was so intense that it spread to the garage and caused smoke damage to their front bedroom, leading to an urgent response from local firefighters.
Their son, James, 17, first noticed the fire around 9:15 pm and quickly alerted the family. Scott, 47, recalled the initial confusion, thinking it might be fireworks until a much louder bang, "like a bomb going off," confirmed something was wrong.
Flames engulfed the luxury car, which had been charging at the time, leaving the family mystified about what could have triggered the incident. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the family now faces extensive damage repair and a search for answers regarding the fire's cause.
