US & UK Markets Suffer Worst Week in 5 Years amid Trump-China Tariff Clash

Stock markets plunge as US-China trade war escalates. NYSE and FTSE 100 record worst trading week in five years following tariff retaliation. Market analysis here.

Global markets have suffered their worst trading week in half a decade, with the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) closing sharply lower and the FTSE 100 in the UK experiencing its steepest one-day drop since 2020.

The rout was triggered by escalating trade tensions between the United States and China. Following President Donald Trump’s announcement of a sweeping tariff package, China retaliated with its own set of counter-tariffs, intensifying fears of a global trade war. As markets opened, Wall Street reacted with renewed volatility, pushing major indices further into the red.

In London, the FTSE 100 index mirrored the losses, continuing its downward slide and closing with its worst single-day performance in five years. Investors are now grappling with uncertainty surrounding international trade policy, inflation fears, and central bank rate decisions.

Financial analysts warn that if tensions continue, further volatility could spill into other sectors and markets globally.
