Residents of Dock Road in Sharpness, Gloucestershire, were stunned to discover that their entire street of 24 homes is going up for auction, with a guide price set at £1,575,000.
The properties include a mix of twelve terraced, eight semi-detached, and two detached homes, along with other buildings such as a former post office, garages, a workshop, and 1.7 acres of vacant land.
The auction, managed by Allsop, is scheduled for early November, with the lot currently generating annual rental income of approximately £168,000 for the Canal and River Trust, the current owner.
The Trust has reassured residents that their tenancies will remain unchanged. However, many worry that a new owner might increase rent, putting them at risk of being priced out of their homes.
Amanda Cawston, a resident for three years, expressed her distress, saying, "We thought we would be here forever and now we don’t know what the future holds.”
Dave Morse, who has lived on Dock Road for 25 years, and Zoe Walker, who moved there in 2006, echoed these concerns, with Walker adding, “There is a lot of uncertainty… we just got to wait and see.” The Canal and River Trust stated it is maintaining communication with residents about the upcoming sale.
