Lloyds Banking Group has announced plans to shut 136 branches across its Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland brands between May 2025 and March 2026, citing a shift toward online banking.

Affected branches include 61 Lloyds, 61 Halifax, and 14 Bank of Scotland locations. Despite the closures, the bank assures customers they can still access services via mobile and telephone banking, Post Office branches, and banking hubs.

This latest round of closures will leave Lloyds with 386 branches, Halifax with 281, and Bank of Scotland with 90.

The move comes as the UK has seen over 6,000 bank branches shut since 2015, raising concerns about access to in-person banking, particularly for rural and elderly customers.

Additionally, Lloyds will close two major offices in Liverpool and Dunfermline, impacting over 1,000 staff. While digital banking continues to expand, campaigners argue that alternatives like banking hubs have not kept pace with branch closures.
