Map Shows Where Parts of the UK will be Hit by 80mph ‘Danger to Life Winds’ This Weekend

October 17, 2024

The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, North Wales, and Cumbria, starting from 3 a.m. on Sunday and lasting until midday on Monday. Gusts could reach speeds of up to 80 mph, potentially causing significant disruptions to travel, damage to properties, power outages, and dangerous conditions due to flying debris and large waves along the coastlines.

The warning highlights that strong winds from a low-pressure system, combined with high spring tides, could exacerbate coastal impacts. Dan Holley, Deputy Chief Meteorologist, mentioned that the situation will continue to be monitored and updated as the weekend approaches, with further warnings possibly being issued. It's advised that those in affected areas stay cautious and prepare for potential hazards.
