Stuart Hogg: Former Scotland Rugby Captain Pleads Guilty to Domestic Abuse

November 4, 2024

Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg has pleaded guilty to a domestic abuse charge, involving abusive behaviour towards his former partner over a period of five years.

The case, presented at Selkirk Sheriff Court, detailed how Hogg’s actions, including sending 200 text messages in a single evening following their separation and using phone apps to track his ex-partner’s location, created a distressing environment.

His behavior, particularly after drinking, reportedly involved frequent shouting and accusations, causing his ex-wife significant fear and distress.

Stuart Hogg, who debuted for Scotland in 2012, enjoyed a distinguished rugby career, earning 100 caps and scoring 171 points for his country, as well as making appearances for the British and Irish Lions.

In July 2023, Hogg announced an unexpected retirement from international rugby ahead of the planned World Cup exit, bringing an early end to his storied career.
