Asda has announced its first round of job cuts after reporting its poorest Christmas sales performance since 2015.

The supermarket’s chairman, Allan Leighton, has eliminated 13 regional manager roles in a bid to streamline operations and boost efficiency, as reported by The Telegraph.

The cuts include four positions from Asda’s retail division and nine from its Express stores.

Sales for the 12 weeks leading up to December 29 dropped by 5.8%, according to data from Kantar, highlighting the challenges faced by the company during the festive period.
