The Nigerian presidency confirmed the death of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, at age 56. Lt. General Lagbaja, appointed as the 27th Chief of Army Staff by President Bola Tinubu on June 19, 2023, passed away on Tuesday night in Lagos following a period of illness.
In an official statement by Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson for the presidency, President Tinubu, who also serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed deep sorrow at General Lagbaja’s passing, offering condolences to his family and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Born on February 28, 1968, in Ilobu, Osun State, General Lagbaja’s brief but impactful tenure as Army Chief is remembered with honor and respect for his contributions to Nigeria's military leadership.
