Spain is moving to prohibit non-EU citizens, including Britons, from purchasing properties within the country.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez unveiled the proposal during a political rally, describing it as a measure aimed at curbing soaring property prices and addressing housing shortages.
The initiative is the latest in a series of actions designed to tackle Spain’s housing crisis, with the Central Bank predicting a shortfall of half a million homes by end of the year.
Addressing his supporters on Sunday, Sanchez stated, “Our government proposes to ban non-EU foreigners who are not residents, along with their relatives, from purchasing houses in Spain, as they often do so for speculative purposes.”
This announcement follows Sanchez’s recent declaration that Spain is considering an "unprecedented" tax of up to 100% on properties acquired by non-EU buyers.
