Beyoncé has set a historic milestone as the most-nominated artist in Grammy history with 99 career nominations, surpassing her previous record of 88 shared with her husband, Jay-Z.
Leading the 2025 Grammy Awards with 11 nominations, she has received nods in genres she's never competed in before, including country and American roots.
This recognition follows her genre-blending album "Cowboy Carter", which has achieved significant cultural and critical acclaim.
Notably, seven songs from "Cowboy Carter" are nominated across four different genres, including the track "Texas Hold 'Em" for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and collaborations with Miley Cyrus and Post Malone.
For the first time, Beyoncé has received a nomination for Album of the Year with a country album, marking her as the first Black woman to receive a nomination in the category within this genre.
Her achievement is historic, as only three Black women have won Album of the Year at the Grammys: Natalie Cole, Whitney Houston, and Lauryn Hill. Beyoncé’s nominations, particularly in the country genre come amid ongoing conversations about the music industry's inclusivity and representation of Black artists.
Her journey into country music began with her controversial 2016 CMA Awards performance with The Chicks, where she experienced pushback and exclusion.
Despite facing these challenges, Beyoncé has reshaped the perception of country music by highlighting its diverse roots. "Cowboy Carter" has brought unprecedented visibility to Black artists in country music, and Beyoncé’s nominations add momentum to the growing movement for inclusion within the genre.
The 2025 Grammy Awards, airing on February 2 from the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles, will be one of the most closely watched events for the Beyhive and music fans worldwide, as many hope Beyoncé will finally secure the Grammy’s top honour, Album of the Year.
