Britain's most affordable town revealed - where houses cost £80,000

November 14, 2024

Zoopla’s 2024 report has identified Cumnock in East Ayrshire as the UK's most affordable town for homebuyers, with an average property value of £80,300—significantly lower than the UK average of £267,500.

The town’s affordability is further underscored by its average property price being just 1.06 times the typical income of £75,800, unlike the national trend where properties cost nearly four times household incomes.

In comparison, Ferndale in Wales is noted as the most affordable in the region, with homes costing about 1.5 times the local income. For buyers in London, Croydon stands out as the most accessible option, with homes averaging £417,800, or 4.7 times the local income.

Zoopla suggests that prospective London buyers seeking affordability consider surrounding commuter towns in the South East or East of England for more options.
