Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia, accompanied by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, faced a hostile reception from survivors while visiting Paiporta, near Valencia, one of the areas most devastated by recent catastrophic flooding.
The floods, which claimed over 60 lives in the region, have led to widespread frustration and anger among residents who feel abandoned by government officials. According to RTVE, tensions escalated as the royal and official entourage walked through the mud-covered streets.
Prime Minister Sánchez was reportedly evacuated from the scene as angry locals, chanting "Get out!" and "Killers!" confronted the officials. Some in the crowd accused the government of ignoring warnings about the floods, believing more could have been done to prevent the disaster.
Police on horseback intervened to create a barrier and hold back the crowd, highlighting the intensity of the backlash as locals voiced their demands for accountability and action in the aftermath of the tragedy.
