A fire has reportedly broken out at a warehouse in Russia's western Tatarstan region, which housed parts for Shahed-136 unmanned aerial vehicles, according to Ukraine's defence ministry. The fire is said to have destroyed drone components worth approximately $16 million.
The Ukrainian defence ministry announced the incident via Telegram, describing the fire as "mysterious" and stating that the warehouse had been completely destroyed. In its statement, the ministry characterised the fire as "another blow to the military-industrial complex of terrorist Russia."
The statement also issued a warning, asserting that there will be "fair retribution for every war crime committed against the Ukrainian people."
The Shahed-136 drones, reportedly used by Russian forces, are Iranian-made loitering munitions that have been employed in attacks during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The destruction of the warehouse marks a significant development, potentially impacting Russia's drone deployment capabilities.
Authorities in Tatarstan have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire or its extent, and no immediate claims of responsibility for the incident have been made. This development adds another layer of tension to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
