Canada has expelled six Indian diplomats, including the High Commissioner, Sanjay Kumar Verma, in response to evidence suggesting ongoing violent criminal activity linked to the Indian government.
A senior Canadian official shared that the expulsions were initiated by Canada, contradicting earlier reports that India had planned to withdraw its diplomats.
The move comes amid heightened tensions between the two countries, fuelled by an ongoing investigation into the 2023 killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia.
The incident has been a major flashpoint in Canada-India relations, with accusations and diplomatic retaliations over allegations of Indian involvement in Nijjar's death. The RCMP is expected to provide further information in a news conference about the ongoing investigation.
