Major Supermarket Issues Urgent Recall of Own-brand Lasagna

November 6, 2024

Co-op has issued a recall for its "Irresistible Luxury Lasagne Al Forno" (700g) due to a possible health risk from undeclared allergens—specifically, mustard and sulphites.

The affected batch has a use-by date of November 17, 2024, and was found to contain these allergens, which are not listed on the label.

The presence of mustard and sulphites poses a risk for those with allergies or intolerances to these ingredients, with reactions ranging from mild symptoms like hives to severe responses like anaphylaxis.

Customers with an allergy or intolerance to mustard or sulphites are advised not to consume the product. Instead, they should dispose of it and visit their local Co-op store for a refund or replacement. The Food Standards Agency has supported this advice to ensure consumer safety.

Symptoms of a mustard allergy may include throat swelling, difficulty breathing, dizziness, and, in rare cases, anaphylactic shock.

Anaphylaxis UK highlights that extreme reactions can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, fainting, or loss of consciousness, necessitating immediate medical attention in severe cases.
